Wellington Lodge self catering cottage, Dumfries, Scotland

Your lovely home away from home in the Scottish countryside.... in the making

Wellington Lodge is an 18th century country cottage 8 miles west of Dumfries, near the village of Beeswing, in the unspoilt region of Dumfries & Galloway – possibly one of Scotland’s best kept secrets.

Great views and no neighbours, apart from possibly an inquisitive cow or two peaking over the hedge.

We are enjoying developing this lovely cottage to a high standard and it will be stylish, but cosy and very comfortable. We aim to have accommodation for 6 visitors, in three bedrooms. Loads of outside space and a lovely patio to sit and enjoy the sunset. We hope visitors will be able to use the separate barn for storing their bikes or for setting up an easel.

The cottage has a double bedroom downstairs and a further double and twin room upstairs. The sitting dining room is open plan with a wood burning stove and lovely views. Enjoy your meals looking out over the gently rolling hills.

Perfect for a summer break, but ideal for a cosy get away in the winter. Great for quality family time or a group of friends catching up.

There will be a guide in the house packed with local recommendations based on our personal knowledge of the area and lots of little extras to get you started on your stay. Bedlinen and towels will be included. We regret we cannot accommodate dogs as we are next to a working farm. (There may be seasonal farm activity at a few points in the year, but we would let you know if this was happening – a great chance to tractor spot if you arrive when the crops are coming in. )

Wellington Lodge is great as a base for exploring the area – a taste of what is on offer....

Loads of days out for children within easy drive:

  • Cream O’Galloway Visitor Centre (Set in the beautiful Galloway countryside it offers a full day filled with deliciously good fun for visitors of all ages. Karts, bikes, slides, rides, woodland adventure playground , amazing ice cream made on the farm and more....)
  • The Cocoa Bean Co Chocolate Factory (Chocolate making workshops and outdoor play area)
  • Mabie Farm Park ( a wonderful farm park with loads of things to do – a great cafe or take your own picnic)
  • Galloway Activity Centre (situated on the banks of Loch Ken in south west Scotland. Catering for families, individuals and groups alike. Choose from: Sailing, Windsurfing, Powerboating, Kayaking, Canoeing, Outdoor Laser Quest, Archery, Mountain Biking, Orienteering, Climbing/Abseiling and more...)
  • Caerlaverock Castle (With its moat, twin towered gatehouse and imposing battlements, Caerlaverock Castle (the epitome of the medieval stronghold. The castle’s turbulent history owes much to its proximity to England which brought it into border conflicts. Visitors can enjoy a siege warfare exhibition, a children’s adventure park and a nature trail.)

For grown ups there are just as many things to do!

  • Golf. Plenty of golf courses with a variety of challenges.....
  • Mountain Biking. The much celebrated 7Stanes mountain biking trails throughout the region.
  • Artists. A strong artist presence in the region with the Spring Fling event at the end of May each year showcasing working artists in the region.
  • Birdwatching opportunities at RSPB Mersehead....
  • Beaches and great walks and locally produced food.

Alternatively, you could just sit and relax and enjoy the view. Perfect.

We could go on and on, but why not come and see for yourself. Visit Wellington Lodge and discover a new corner of Scotland.

Our website is being developed so watch this space for updates on our progress and when we will be open for bookings.
